"Morning Rush Hour on the Feathered Highway: Bird Migration Monitoring, Training and Outreach in the Los Angeles Mountains"

Lauren Hill of the Bear Divide Banding Station will explore the spectacular spring migration at Bear Divide in the San Gabriel Mountains and highlight how avian monitoring efforts at the Bear Divide Banding Station combines scientific research, bander training and community outreach to advance our understanding of western avian migration, as well as facilitate connections between people, birds and science.

"Updates from the Range: Ten Years of Bird
Monitoring on California Cattle Ranches​"
​​​Brian Fagundes, a Working Lands Biologist for Point Blue Conservation Science, will provide an overview of an ongoing statewide research effort called the "Rangeland Monitoring Network (RMN)". For 10 years on over 100 ranches, data has been collected on soil health, vegetation, and birds to support land managers' grazing and stewardship goals.

From the parking area we will first walk into the Compound checking for birds in the riparian areas. After exploring this section we will walk out to the pasture area where we can expect to see grassland birds, raptors as well as kingbirds, grosbeaks and orioles.

Robert Urtecho, Dean and Professor Emeritus (College of the Sequoias) will explore what makes Tulare County one of the most interesting and unique place to study plant life in our state. Three decades of teaching and learning have not only given him an appreciation of the flora, but has enhanced his understanding of the historic uses of our native plants.
